It’s been dry, really dry. In fact one might even say the dreaded “d” word. (Drought) Alas, this evening it rained and all the little water lovers came out to say hi.
A Painted turtle and a green frog came out to have a look around. I picked up the turtle to bring inside to say hello to Zoey and then put him back in his same spot. I think he enjoyed the adventure as much as Zo Zo.
The frog was funny. He let me take pics about an inch away from him without even blinking. It’s been about 4 weeks since we got rain, we so needed it. I hope the gray skies come back soon.
Ahh the obligatory veggie shots…..Pickling cucumber almost ready to pick, radish and hot pepper.
Happy Father’s Day Everyone! Here’s what I got, Thanks Mindy!
That is so cool! We planted our garden in our back yard and it has not only been wonderful for our pocketbook, but wonderful for our family to work together and benefit for all of our diligence. Thanks for sharing.

The sign is awesome
Zoey is soo cute 😉
Love the shirt
Always rockin’ the Formecology tee brother
South central WI is so dry too (and hot, what’s with all the 90 degree temp in mid-June!).
We’ve got brown ‘August Grass’ already…..
Rain is such a soothing blessing when Mother Nature delivers. Virginia has her share of drought and hot, humid weather. I know your joy as the skies deliver. When you have a chance, check out my blog entitled “the thing about water” and remember to do your rain dance. Kids love this part! 😉
We had 2.5″ of rain over the last couple of days. It was heavenly. It was getting pretty brown here. (Kansas)
Terrific sign – be sure to post a picture when you get it set in the ground. Pickling cucumbers look delicious!
Loved your turtle.. i want one!! we had rain last night too.. such a joy..c
Happy Father’s Day! Happy rain day! Love, love the sign. The kidlet is seriously adorable. 🙂
The rain was indeed needed and a blessing! Your cucumbers are way ahead of ours – what’s your trick?
We’re in the middle of a very wet winter but last year we never got our minimum for the winter so it is really nice to be so soggy – and we are the same…so many different frogs singing out it sounds like a slimy orchestra out there! I love the tortoise’s racing stripes 😀
So happy for you. Great pictures…all the critters were enjoying the rain with you…sure will be nice on the garden too. We are very familiar with that ‘d’ word and we need a lot of rain to get past it.
Oh my goodness! Such a joy to read your posts! Happy Father’s Day and Happy Rain!
Pretty pictures. Always enjoy the critters when it rains. Had a suprise in the garden today….saw my carrots were actually coming up. I thought they just didn’t like the dirt there, but maybe I planted them too deep.
It is so nice when the rain comes. Lovely farm.
Considering the awful drought Texas has experienced recently, no one should ever complain too hard about too much rain.
Hooray on the rain! We still desperately need some, and haven’t had even a sprinkle in such a long time. And in our community garden, we’re not allowed to use hoses, so that means carting water from the spigot to the plots in buckets. Oh well, I’m thankful for the spigot, at least!
Your sign is great!
Good to hear you got the rain you needed. We also got some good rain here in Illinois and at our farm in Iowa. We planted 5 new fruit trees at the farm and was getting a little worried about them until yesterday. The grass and garden here needed it even more. Love your blog and you have a gorgous farm.
I wish we had some rain down here in Karnes County in southern Texas, too. We’ve had only .3 inches since May 11! Everything’s going brown and becoming cinder dry again.
Thank goodness for the rain! Your crops always look wonderful.
We got rain here in NE Ohio today also. We were in dire need of it. We have brown crunchy grass and dusty gardens. So thankful for the rain. And enjoyed the thunderstorm that came with it. Now I will have to start mowing my grass again. Oh well it’s worth it.
We’re located in NE Ohio. We’re neighbors!
Well hello neighbor! Thank you for following my blog! Glad us NE Ohio-ans can stick together.
Wonderful! Hope that you had a wonderful day! Would love rain here but it will be four months before we have rain! Love your blog!
Your shot of the pickling cucumbers made my day. I was recently in Michigan and my grandma kept asking when the cucumbers would be ready to make pickles. My mom makes a great sweet pickle as well as refrigerator dills. For Michigan growing season though, it’s more beginning of July – but my grandma kept asking. Hope your pickles turn out well!
Excellent as always. Beautiful photos.
Cool sign, congrats!
We had so much rain the other day down here that it moved my pine nut mulch from the back of the house to the front. I know that you guys need it up there.
Oh, my! Happy for your rain and sooooooo hoping we get some here in SE WI, too, and soon…
Love the creature pics!
Congratulations on the rain and Fathers Day. It seems strange to read about a lack of rain when (as usual) the summer in the UK is rain, rain and then more rain yet it s officially a drought here? Sometimes i just don’t get ‘here’.
Parts of the UK were in drought until the recent downpours, so I can understand the joy at getting your rain in Ohio.
I like when the rain comes, because my flowers get free water from nature 😀
Makes me smile, we have had nothing but rain in the UK. Want to swop some of your sunshine with us? My strawberries are going mouldy!!
I love the look of your pickling cukes! I’m trying them this year for the first time, and I’m not sure they are going to make it. Between the slugs and lots of rain they aren’t coming along as well as I’d like.
What a Fabulous sign! Great job!
I’m glad you got some and hope you had a great Father’s Day. It sprinkled here for a few minutes late last night in western PA. We need it badly.
After a dry winter and spring we have had a lot of rain recently and everywhere is luch green (and overgrown!). Love the sign!
What a great present you received for Father’s Day! We are in Seven Hills and we are sooooo glad we finally got LOTS of rain too! The garden is loving it! Your garden is coming along beautifully! 🙂
We have had the equivilant of 1 months rain in 1 week here in Ireland. You are quite welcome to all of ours….LOL!
Zoe is so cute 🙂
Congrats on your lovely sign.
Congrats on your new sign – beautiful! 🙂
Seems the new way of weather is to get a pattern then it stays a while….something about the jet stream. We had rains, now we’re in a dry spell. SO happy for your wet wonderfulness.

Really enjoyed the pics. Great shot of you, your daughter and the nice sign. Great to see a dad enjoying time with his kid.
The frog is quite handsome. Rain, it brings a certain relief after such a long absence doesn’t it?
And what a great sign!
Rain? What is that? I live in San Diego. 😎 I didn’t realize you could have droughts up there. 😎 Love your blog!! We’re nominated your for the One Lovely Blog award. See our blog for instructions. We are going to try your worm compost instructions!
It sounds like the rain was much needed! And the green frog is a cutie
I love the sign! What a neat gift. Say, when you done with the rain, would you send it west to Indiana?
Hi there, I nominated you for the Very Inspirational Blog Award. I think it’s a way to get exposure and circulation. If you wanna play, you choose 15 inspiring bloggers and link to them from your blog and say why you are nominating them. Then put in 7things that most people don’t know about you. You can look at mine if you need a format type thing, although I just winged it. Good Luck!
Love the sign! We also have LOTS of painted turtles around our house. They are fun to play with. We had two in our pond that we named. Jimi and Janis… 🙂 and the toad Elvis. Elvis has a bite taken out of his back leg from one of the turtles. But hes been there for about 3 years now.
We would gladly send you some of our rain clouds – hay is getting wet, weeds are growing faster than they need to, etc. The turtle is amazing – don’t have any here. Love the sign.
I enjoy reading your posts and looking at your beautiful pictures so I nominated your site for the “Versatile Blogger Award.” Congratulations! If you go to http://versatilebloggeraward.wordpress.com/ or my site (http://gardensunshine.wordpress.com/), you will find the information on the award, how to pass it along and then you can download the badge on your site if you want. Accepting the award is optional. Congratulations!
love the turtle 🙂 and our garden was SO happy for the rain as well!
Wow – in this part of Saskatchewan we are SOPPING wet – had we known, we would have shared! 🙂 I guess it doesn’t really work that way, does it? So glad your lovely garden got a good drink. Happy gardening!
Congratulations on the sign! It looks great! And the turtle…..too cute!
Nice sign and Zoey is adorable!
So glad you finally got some much needed rain, hope there is more coming. Love the frog photo.
We had severe drought in Texas last year. No fun at all. Then when we finally got rain, strange weeds appeared everywhere. What a mess. So glad you got some rain. You got crunch when you walk?
Awesome critters! I hope the rain continues to fall for you.
Love the thunderclouds/trees photo. Thanks for sharing the critters. I’ve been waiting for rain – hope it comes soon!
Great post! Just goes to show that the rain is loved by everyone, even the frogs and turtles! Bring on the rain!!
Please take some of our rain! I am dying for some sun. We had a few days of consecutive nice weather, but it seems the clouds have come back. Love the sign!
Rain is so refreshing. It amazes me when people complain about it. Glad to see you embracing the weather that helps wildlife and plants!
Awesome sign! We also finally got rain; but now a bit too much. We’ve had flash flooding in many areas. If only mother nature could spread it out a bit. 🙂
WE got a lot of rain over this way as well. A lot of it ran off, but much needed nonetheless

You sent the rain over the mountains to us Monday. We had about an inch in the morning and another inch and a half in the afternoon. Of course, at work, they are replacing the roof, so when the gully-washer started, we were running around with trash cans to catch the drips. Rain, of course, means more weeding in the garden!

I nominated you for the sunshine award. Please see your blog listing at http://suburbancreampuff.wordpress.com/2012/06/20/a-bit-behind-but-worth-it/
Hello! I have nominated you for a Versatile Blogger Award. No doubt you already have dozens, but I do love your blog and your ethos, so please accept if you like, but if you don’t have room for any more, I understand. 🙂
What a wonderful way for a child to grow up! ZoZo is ADORABLE! 😀
That is an awesome gift! Great looking sign.
Looking forward to the rain here as well. It’s been hot and dry for two weeks solid, which is very unusual here. Looks like lovely fun with the turtle and frog for the little one! 🙂
Cool sign… 🙂
Such a coincidence that you mentioned the painted turtle in your father’s day post. My father passed away a month ago, and he did for me what you did for your daughter when I was little – bringing me a painted turtle so I could see it and then taking it back to where he found it (which required canoeing across a lake) and this was one of the memories I shared in my eulogy for him. You daughter is a little young but it’s these kind of things children remember!
Hi,
I’m was passionate gardener but close to retirement, have scaled down significantly.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Good luck with the farm.

Happy fathers day Mr Soulsby Farm…glad you had a great day and congratulations on the rain…we have a dearth of rain here at the moment so I can’t honestly say that another shower figures highly on my July Wishlist and I have only just caught up with these 3 posts as I now use rss feed reader to read all of my blogs in the one spot (frees up my email).
Zoey is so adorable!
Great sign and glad you got some rain!
