We had quite a wet spring but thanks to my brother Dave, the entire farm is planted (he’s on the 9N in the pic below). I couldn’t have done it without him, he’s the best brother a guy could have.
How is your garden coming along? How’s your weather? We had over 6 feet of snow this winter and I’m predicting a hot, dry summer here in the Midwest. Then again we just had a thunderstorm that dumped a couple of inches this morning. It hasn’t really rained in 3 weeks though….
Our new crop this year (drum roll please) cotton! I got a couple of packs of seeds from Baker Creek Seeds. A wonderful company who donates seeds every year to our non-profit Project Garden Share. Speaking of Project Garden Share, if you’d like some free heirloom seeds sent to you, contact me! All we ask is that you plant one for yourself and one for PGS (so you can donate it to a local food bank for those in need.)
Here are some pictures of everything from pumpkin mounds, bonfires, happy chickens and a bean trellis made from tree branches that will be covered by pole beans soon (‘How to’ Post coming soon). We are also trying out weed blocking fabric this season, I’ll let ya know how well it does…..
What a great feeling, isn’t it?? Looks wonderful, too!
I have been missing your posts! Beautiful pics and I would love some seeds if this is easy for you to do!

What a well organised garden and veggie patch, although I wouldn’t let my chickens roam around the veggie patch or they would peck everything.
I am so happy to see your post today! I haven’t heard from you in ages and it is great to hear how your farm is doing. Thank God for helpful brothers! Glad everything seems to be doing so well for you! My veggies are aren’t doing as well as my fruit here in Ireland. Peas, garlic and potatoes is really all that is taking off. Looks like it’ll be another good season for strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. I can’t complain. 🙂 Dana
awesome big brother. The photos look great too!
Beautiful pictures! We just got our first flock of chickens-what do u have pictured? Red Star and RIR? I look forward to more posts.
Blessings,
Hi Marcia! They’re Golden Comets (Red Stars as you call em) or …. Golden Buff, Gold Sex Link, Cinnamon Queen, etc…. Great birds, excellent layers and so fun to have around.
OK thanks. I have a couple of chicks that I think may be red stars but I’m not sure. I ordered hatcheries choice so most of the breeds I got are a mystery for this new by. 🙂
Are you just getting back to blogging? If so welcome back! The farm looks great!
In Kentucky, we have cabbages, broccoli, tomatoes (roma and jet star), peppers (bell and jalapenos), onions, sweet potatoes, corn (already knee high), and potatoes planted. I am eager to see how your cotton grows. I don’t know if it will be warm enough up there. Hope all is going well! Uncle Mike planted a garden in his backyard. You’ll have to ask how his is coming along.
Tell all Hi!
Hi Jules! I saw pics of Uncle Mike’s garden…. Looks great! I’m curious to see if the cotton comes about. I probably should have gotten them in the ground earlier. They take 145 Days to mature so we’ll see 🙂 and your corn is knee high already?? Wow! you’re on the ball. You’ll have to email me some pics of your garden, I’d love to see it.
Awesome pics! You inspired me to get out there, eradicate the weeds from the garden ground and plant some produce! We have Golden comets in our flock too. Great layers!!
Hey Dan! Glad to see you have returned to blogging about your farm again, we missed all of your posts! How is Mindy & Zoe? That is awesome that you have such a wonderful brother to help you create your awesome farm! I hope you stop by to check out our garden too on my blog! We love this time of year! ❤
The garden looks great and I love the last photo of the house. It’s crazy how different the seasons are in Texas and Ohio, we had to plant everything months ago or it wouldn’t stand a chance against our heat.
We’re trying fabric this year too. Such a big gap in time between tilling and planting that weeds took over, so I just cut them and covered them with fabric.
Simply perfect! Keep up the good work!
Nice photos!Uncle Jim was here.
Everything looks great. Our gardens are in and growing along with some weeds we didn’t really ask for. But, after the wicked winter we survived even green weeds are better than anything white on the ground. 🙂
