A tragedy occurred this week in the tight-knit community of Chardon, Ohio. Chardon High School students were subjected to a random act of violence. The senseless act left 3 dead and 2 more injured.
This tragedy happened just 10 miles from where I grew up. A rural town of only about 5,000… Chardon is a quiet place where folks love to farm, fish and hunt. Where everyone knows you and where community is strong. This hits especially close to home because my Uncle, Aunt and cousins live on a farm here. My youngest cousin graduated from Chardon High School just last year.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the friends & families of everyone affected by this horror. Please, say a prayer for those who passed and those who are left to pick up the pieces.
If you want to make a donation, a fund has been set up through the United Way of Geauga County called the Chardon Healing Fund. Here is their website: http://www.uwsgc.org/
Visit the town website and take a look around http://www.chardon.cc/
I posted thsi on my FB page….”If all you can offer is a prayer”…God bless all those affected by these acts of violence,
Jess
My heart goes out to the families of the victims. Indeed, we are all victims when one of these tragedies occurs. The science of psychology has advanced in past decades. We know what it takes to raise well-adjusted youngsters. We know that they need loving and nurturing in the early years, structure for security and small risks to build confidence. Laughing and loving and connectedness–it’s not rocket science. Still, while the politicians argue about family values and job losses, we fail to educate and provide support for the environments needed for our most human and humane of developmental needs. And then a tragedy like this happens. One of the damaged ones takes us all down the rabbit hole and it’s loss all around. Instead of psychology leading the way to expanding our potential, we analyze our losses and pour our energies into grieving and closures. So short-sighted and so sad.
Raising chickens is not only a great way to relax and get back to nature, I think the eggs are much healthier than the ones in stores. I feel sorry for folks who can’t raise backyard chickens because of silly zoning laws and such.
How can I comment on such a senseless act. Our prayers are with the families
What a horrible sensible tragedy! My prayers are with you and your family and all of the families in the town!

I was so sorry to hear of this horrible senseless act of violence in this small community near you. Of course I will remember these families who lost loved ones, and the others who are there to love and support them during this difficult time.
I am so saddened by this horrible loss and tragedy for the this beautiful small town of Chardon. Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones and the whole community. God Bless them and help them get through this difficult time. Thanks for posting this Danny…
This was a senseless act. What was going on it that childs head that he thought he need to kill people over. Sometimes people snap because of collective bullying if adults don’t take care of the children as a whole and only take care of those that are popular what does that say about us as a people. Its sad that these children lost their lives but it is also sad that something wasn’t done before now to help an introvert that obviously needed help before this tragic event happed. My thought go out to those families that have injured or lost family.
Thank you for writing about this.
So terrible to hear of anything like this anywhere, and when it strikes close to home, all the more horrifying and frightening. I know, having been touched by such a thing too. My heart goes out to you and to all who have been affected by this. As we all are, ultimately–the very reason that every kind of healthy and positive community that we can build, as I see that you are doing here so beautifully through your work and your blog, is so deeply important.
Peace to you and yours.
Kathryn
My prayers go out to the community for such a senseless act.
I had a senseless act to happen to my hooligans. Someone chased them around a hay field last weekend and shot my Blackie with a shotgun. She has 3 or 4 dozen shot in her. I’d been working on my underground fence for a week trying to find a break somewhere on 3.5 acres. I couldn’t find her Saturday AM and rode the main roads looking for her. Before going down into the creek bottom I decided I needed to bypass a couple of more sections trying to find the bad area & she barked at me from across the creek. I told her to come home & she just sat there with her tongue hanging out looking at me. I knew something was wrong & started back to the house & she started continuously barking. I had to go through a couple of neighbors property to get to her, When I got out she showed me she couldn’t walk.
I am so sorry to hear this and send my love and condolences to all affected by this awful senseless act. We didn’t hear about this in our UK news.
Thank you for ‘liking’ my post. I’m liking what I’ve read of your work too.
